Dental implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. During the healing the bone is growing onto implant. In general, implants are used to replace damaged or lost teeth, functioning as posts or removable teeth replacements.
A SINGLE MISSING TOOTH MAY LOWER QUALITY OF LIFE
Perfect teeth and a beautiful smile gives you very needed self-consciousness. The materials, shapes and implantation procedures has improved a lot thanks to huge growth in implant dentistry in the past decade.
WHAT IS DENTAL IMPLANT
Dental implant made of titanium functions as tooth post, replacing the damaged tooth root. Titanium is generally easy to accept by human body and titanium allergies are very rare. This artificial root provides a base for attaching a prosthetic replacement and also fills a missing tooth gap. Implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth.
INITIAL CHECKUP
The treatment starts by a consultation about your wishes and requirements. Then we scan the mouth using modern RTG and 3D scanners available in our clinic.
PROCEDURE
The treatment is being done under local anesthesia. After extracting dysfunctional teeth, the gums where the teeth were located become exposed. After that, we drill 2-3cm into the bone in the place where the root was. We place a titanium post into the drill hole. This post is screw-shaped to prevent any tooth movement. This part of procedure takes about 20-30 minutes and is slightly painful. Next step is to manufacture a tooth imprint. Crown is made in dental laboratory and with right conditions, we are able to install the implant and burden it with prosthetic replacement in one day. Recovery time is at least 3 months concerning lower jaw and 6 months in upper jaw. Success rates of dental implants are about 95% in lower jaw and 90% in upper jaw.
POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS
Same as other surgical procedures, dental implants might be related with some health risks (although it is very rare). Implanting might fail in smokers, people using some specific medication or people lacking bone stock around the implant location. Titanium (or other metals used in implants) allergies are very rare and practically non-existing.
WHEN TO USE DENTAL IMPLANTS
Healthy teeth should not only be able to perform vital actions such as chewing and biting but also should be aesthetically pleasing (since they are important part of our face). Smile is essential for appealing looks, but healthy teeth are also necessary even for correct pronunciation. There are many reasons to losing some of the teeth, most likely an injury, disease or dental caries.
Tooth implant meets all requirements of healthy tooth, being a natural and accurate copy.
Generally, almost anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. After visual examination using 3D CT scan, dental specialist decides if you are suitable for dental implants. Density of jaw bone is necessary for successful dental implanting. Also, patient has to have a good healing rate and respect an importance of dental hygiene.
